BOE approves purchases, discusses path to bond issue

The USD 308 Board of Education approved several purchases Monday night tied to the continued expansion of the district’s Lil’ Hawks Early Learning Program while also discussing next steps for a potential future bond issue.

Among the items approved was a $45,899.50 purchase for replacement Clear Touch interactive boards in preschool classrooms and conference spaces throughout the Lil’ Hawks Early Learning Program. District administration said the current boards are aging and have experienced ongoing performance and functionality issues that have impacted classroom instruction and staff use.

The approved purchase from Kansas City Audio-Visual includes 17 classroom interactive boards and three conference room boards. District officials said the technology is used daily to support instruction, family engagement, staff collaboration and curriculum implementation.

Board members also approved plans to relocate playground equipment from Park Place Church to Lincoln Center ahead of the 2026-2027 school year. The move comes as Head Start classrooms currently housed at Park Place Church transition to Lincoln Center.

Under the district’s memorandum of understanding with the church, the playground equipment must be removed and the area restored at the end of the partnership. Administration recommended Aspire2Play for the project after reviewing two proposals, citing a lower overall cost while still meeting project requirements and timeline needs.

Additional approvals included $35,268 for furniture for four Lil’ Hawks classrooms at Lincoln Center and $33,903.01 for classroom supplies for those same classrooms.

The board also discussed next steps related to a possible future bond issue that could eventually be presented to district patrons. During the discussion, board members emphasized the importance of continued public engagement and encouraging communication between district patrons and board members as the process moves forward.
