Clements hired as Interim City Manager

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson City Council held a special meeting Friday afternoon to approve the Interim Services Agreement with Mary Grace Clements for the vacant City Manager position.

"I welcome the opportunity to work here alongside such dedicated employees, the hard-working employees of the city," Clements said. "My intent is to lead them with integrity and fairness and honesty and transparency. I feel that, if we work in unison each and every day, that we're going to strive to make Hutchinson a better place for every individual in this community. I thank you for the opportunity. I look forward to just doing what I can to help move things forward and to make sure that we set it up for the next City Manager and I welcome questions and I'm really honored to be here today. Thank you so much."

According to information from Clements appointment to the Hutchinson Community Foundation Board, Clements is a former executive director of the Reno County Historical Society from 2016 to 2018.

She previously served as the chair of the Travel and Tourism Advisory Committee and Market Hutch board.

"I have a lot of respect for each and every one of you," Clements told the council. "I have a lot of respect and compassion for this community. I feel that it's an important time and I'm excited for the work and I'm excited, because I think we have lots of talent here. I just want to help in any way I can."

Before coming to the museum, Clements spent a long career in the airline industry, her last post in that industry was at Allegiant Air, where she was vice president of inflight services and vice president of customer operations.

She was also director of inflight services at Pace and Midway airlines.

According to the agreement, interim services provided by Clements shall commence on May 30, 2023 for a period of two (2) weeks.

The Interim Services Agreement shall continue on a bi-weekly to bi-weekly basis; and said Agreement may be terminated by either party for any reason upon fourteen (14) calendar days written notice to the other party.

In return for the interim services provided under the Agreement, City agrees to pay Employee an amount not to exceed Six Thousand Seven Hundred Thirty Dollars and Seventy-seven Cents ($6,730.77) per bi-weekly pay period, prorated, if less than a full pay period of services is provided.

Said compensation shall be payable in installments at such intervals as other City employees are paid. Employee shall only be eligible for such other benefits as are required by law. Employee shall also receive a cell phone allowance of no more than Fifty Dollars ($50.00) bi-weekly.
