HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Family Community Theatre is presenting 'Harvey' on April 20 through 23. Director Wes Bartlett explains that the play is a World War II era classic.

"It's been around since 1944," Bartlett said. "Mary Chase wrote it at that time after some successful local shows that she wrote. She was from Denver, Colorado. It's been performed many, many times by community theaters, high schools, it's been on Broadway several times. Probably the most famous one or most familiar, anyway, is the movie that starred Jimmy Stewart as Elwood."

Elwood P. Dowd insists on including his friend Harvey in all of his sister Veta’s social gatherings. Veta’s trepidations are that Harvey is an imaginary six-and-a- half-foot-tall rabbit. Matt Christian takes the stage at FCT as Elwood P. Dowd.

"I know I'm considered the lead character, but that's kind of misleading," Christian said. "It's really an ensemble cast. I am working with a lot of great people, some I've worked with before, some that are new friends and that's very much what Elwood is all about. No one is a stranger and everyone is a friend."

Show times on April 20 through April 22 are at 7:30 p.m., doors opening at 6:30 p.m. Then on April 23 the curtain lifts at 3 p.m., doors opening at 2 p.m.

Tickets are available at Absolutely Home, Bookends Book Store, online at www.familycommunitytheater.org and at the Flag Theatre one hour prior to the show.

The Flag Theatre is located at 310 N. Main St. in Hutchinson.
