JOHNSON COUNTY —A 13-year-old boy on a motorized scooter was struck by a car in the 3800 block of 143rd Street in Leawood.

Just after 7:30a.m. the boy was traveling westbound on the sidewalk on his way to school, according to a media release from Leawood Polixe. As he crossed the entrance to the Prairie Star Middle School, he was struck by an eastbound vehicle turning left into the parking lot. 

Fortunately, the boy was wearing a helmet and was alert and talking when the first officer arrived. Leawood Fire and Johnson County MedAct provided initial care before he was transported to a local hospital for further treatment.&nbsp; The crash remains under investigation
