Solar public hearing date still in the future

SOUTH HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Reno County Planning Commission did not set a date for a public hearing for another phase of work on solar regulations at their meeting May 16.

The board did agree to a series of text amendments amending Article 15-109 (1) and (2) Accessory Uses Allowed to create private ground-mounted solar energy system regulations. Basically, if you want a ground mounted private system, you'll need to bring plans to the county planner to be approved as meeting the criteria in the language. Roof mounted systems are already okay.

The board is waiting to get the language prohibiting large-scale commercial solar in the zoned area of the county before setting a hearing date, in hope that the hearing date for both the accessory use language for private and the prohibition of large-scale commercial solar in the zoned areas can hold public hearings at the same time.

That could happen as soon as next month, but the intent is to get the commercial side language for the board to look at in their June meeting and set a date at that meeting, if possible.
