Steven ‘Steve’ Edward Lemen, 74, of South Hutchinson, KS, passed away March 12, 2024, at Hospice House, Hutchinson, KS.  He was born September 14, 1949, in Hutchinson, to Samuel E. Lemen, Jr. and Corrine Opal (Schroeder) Lemen.  Steve was a lifelong resident of Hutchinson and South Hutchinson.

He was a 1967 graduate of Hutchinson High School.  After graduation, Steve enlisted in the United States Army and served from September 1970 through June 1973.  He was employed by the Hutchinson Fire Department from January 1976 to June 1986.  Steve then worked as a sales representative for Pella of Kansas, retiring with over 37 years of service.

Steve enjoyed fishing, hunting, boating, building houses, repaving complexes, and traveling.  He was an avid Kansas City Chiefs football fan. Steve had a servant’s heart and loved helping others.

He was united in marriage to Carol Jean Verona on March 12, 1977, in Falls Creek, PA.  Steve passed away on their 47th wedding anniversary.

Steve is survived by:  his wife, Carol Lemen of South Hutchinson; daughter, Jessica Lemen; grandchildren, Kamryn Newboles, Xavian Henry, and Knox Henry; sisters, Marsha (Cecil) Wheeler of Hutchinson, and Cynthia Shears of Colleyville, TX; uncle, Gary (Patty) Lemen; aunt, Shirley Ahrens; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by:  his parents; numerous aunts and uncles; and nephew, Jeffrey Bechtold.

Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, March 23, 2024, at Elliott Mortuary.  Burial will follow in Fairlawn Burial Park.  Military honors will be conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard.  Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, March 22, 2024, with the family present at Elliott Mortuary.  The memorial service can be viewed online beginning at 1:45 p.m. on the day of the service by going to Steve’s obituary on the Elliott Mortuary website and clicking on the link located at the end of the obituary.  Cremation has taken place.
