HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Salvation Army kicked off its bell ringing campaign on Thursday and is trying something a little bit different to try to come up with enough bell ringers for the season.
“This season we are doing a Battle of the Church Bells,'' Maj. Paul James said. “A person can go to registertoring.com and they choose a time and place during the week of Dec. 6th through the 11th.”
The churches can sign up as a group or an individual can sign up and state they are ringing for their church.
Even with that, James says they are still in need of ringers for the season.
“Last year with COVID people were very cautious about ringing bells and volunteering,” James said. “We’re trying to get some volunteers gathered.”
James says that it is still a struggle to get ringers to volunteer this season, but hopes churches will help fill those gaps this year.
There will be a traveling trophy for the churches who participate in the Battle of the Bells. If you need more information, you can call Maj. Paul James at 620-474-1314. And if you want to sign up to ring, you can do so at registertoring.com.
