
HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Hutch Rec announced on Monday that Ted Nelson, Director of Aquatics and Wellness Divisions, is set to retire on March 1.
Nelson started with Hutch Rec in 1990 as a seasonal pool manager and swim lessons teacher at the Rice Park Pool and later Carey Park Pool. He worked in the summers with Hutch Rec and was a special education teacher during the school year.
In 2000, Nelson managed the Salt City Splash Aquatic Center in its inaugural year. In 2001, he was hired full-time as Hutch Rec’s Superintendent of Aquatics. In addition to operating Salt City Splash and later the Buhler Pool, Nelson has assisted in other roles at Hutch Rec throughout his tenure, including: teen activities and programming, adaptive recreation, wellness/fitness programming, and several community events and races.
A public come-and-go reception for Nelson will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 22 from 4-6 p.m. at the Taylors’ Shady Lane Cabin on the grounds of Dillon Nature Center, 3002 E. 30th Ave.
