
Alice Mae Neufeld, 91, died October 5, 2025, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. She was born November 28, 1933, in rural Sylvia, to William Howard and Ruth May (Jones) Brown.
Alice graduated from Sylvia High School. She worked for various financial institutions, retiring as head teller from Bank of America, after 23 years of service. While her children were little, Alice enjoyed bowling, bringing home numerous trophies from various tournaments. In addition, she was an avid Kansas City Royals and Kansas University basketball fan. Despite life’s adversities, Alice kept her faith, and held her head high. She was a loyal and active member of South Hutchinson United Methodist Church for over 40 years.
On August 27 1953, she married Eddie L. Neufeld, in Hutchinson. He died December 18, 2018, after they shared 65 years of marriage. Alice and Eddie loved to travel, and spent many miles touring the United States in their motor home and camper.
Alice is survived by: daughter, Jo Matzes of Danville, MO; sons, Larry Neufeld (Kathy) of Augusta, Gary Neufeld (Chris) of Salina, and Jerry Neufeld (Debbie) of Kemp, TX; grandchildren, Craig Matzes, Brett Matzes, Trey Matzes, Drew Matzes, Clayton Neufeld, Brian Neufeld, Ryan Neufeld, and Emily Bakhaya; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; stepfather, Art Hook; husband, Eddie; son-in-law, Al Matzes; and sister, Nina Owens.
Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 5, 2025, at South Hutchinson United Methodist Church, 206 E. Avenue E, South Hutchinson, with the Reverend Mike Rose officiating. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson. Friends may sign her book from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary. The casket will remain closed.
