Steven graduated from Pratt High School in 1966. He earned his Master's Degree from the University of Kansas. He served 13 years in the United States National Guard. He was a High School Special Education teacher at Hugoton and then worked as a Special Education Administrator for South Central Kansas Special Education Cooperative in Pratt. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and formerly served on the Board at Arrowhead West for many years. He belonged to many Special Education Groups, sporting activities and administrative groups. He was active in Stephen's Ministry at First United Methodist Church as well as Emmaus and Chrysalis organizations. He enjoyed camping, fishing, woodworking, learning new technology, sports especially Kansas City Chiefs and KU Football and spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Janell; daughters, Kristina Keeling and Bethany Mullins all of Pratt; brothers, Danny (Karla) Mead of Pratt and Tim (Robin) Mead of Van Lear, Kentucky; sister, Sharilyn Mead of Corpus Christi, Texas; and grandchildren, Gage Barbour, Corbin Keeling, Kyrian Keeling, Tegan Mullins, Logan Mullins and Riddick Mullins.
Steven is preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be Thursday, August 22, 2024 from 9:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Larrison Mortuary, 300 Country Club Rd, Pratt. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 23, 2024 at First United Methodist Church, Pratt. Burial will follow at Ellenwood Cemetery, Sawyer.
Memorials may be made to Shriner's Hospital or Donor Choice in care of Larrison Mortuary.
