🏀 WBB: No. 4 Dragons shake slow third quarter

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The No. 4 Dragons (7-0, 1-0) had to shake a stagnant third quarter against Independence (4-3, 0-1) Wednesday night in the Sports Arena to remain perfect on the young season.

Hutchinson's 10-point halftime lead ballooned to 16 just two minutes into the second half, but the Pirates used a 10-0 run to pull within 44-38.

Back-to-back D'yanna Maxey threes in the fourth quarter pulled Indy within two with 6:17 to play. Maxey scored just two points in the first half before finishing with a team-high 18.

The Dragons used the next four minutes of the fourth quarter to build the lead back to 57-50 before winning by eight.

FINAL: Hutchinson 61 Independence 53

Mya Williams scored a game-high 21 points while Monae Duffy pulled down 21 rebounds.

Kali Howard just missed a double-double with 11 points and nine boards.

Hutchinson shot just 2 of 19 from distance (10.5%).

The Dragons are on the road to Concordia this Saturday to face Cloud County.
