Newton woman hospitalized after head-on semi crash

HARVEY COUNTY—One person was injured in an accident just after 8:30a.m. Tuesday in Harvey County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2010 Ford Edge driven by Sarah Elizabeth Martin, 28, Newton, was westbound Kansas 196 just east of East Lake Road.

The SUV traveled left of center, entered the eastbound lane and struck a 2018 Peterbilt semi driven by Brentley Foster Wood, 35, Great Bend, head-on.

After impact the Ford came to rest in South ditch. The semi continued southeast into the field.   EMS transported Martin to Wesley Medical Center.  Wood was not injured. Both driver were properly restrained, according to the KHP.

KHP Trooper Joe Owen wrote, "here’s a sobering reminder for all of us to slow down and drive safely during winter weather."

HARVEY COUNTY, Kan. — According to a social media report from the Harvey County Sheriff's Office, emergency responders are working a two-vehicle accident on KS Highway 196 near South East Lake Road. That's in eastern Harvey County, west of Whitewater. Both eastbound and westbound traffic is closed on the roadway due to the accident.

The accident involved a semi and a car. First responders are on scene. One person is being treated for potentially serious injuries.
