HUTCHINSON, Kan. – Hutchinson Community College has announced that Matt Wilper, Associate Professor of Economics, has been selected as the 2025-26 Dragon Educator of the Year.
Wilper was selected from nominees from all academic areas by the HutchCC Student Government Association (SGA) for the honor. The instructors are nominated by Hutchinson Community College students and then complete a selection and personal interview process conducted by SGA. Wilper received his honor at the College’s commencement on May 8.

Said one of his student nominators: “Professor Wilper is easily one of the most creative and relatable teachers I’ve ever had. He makes econ super simple and fun. He uses hands-on activities like Jenga and trivia that help the info actually stick with you because you’re doing something active.”
Wilper has taught at HutchCC since 2017. He teaches Macroeconomics, Honors Macroeconomics, Microeconomics and Honors Microeconomics. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Washburn University, earned his Master of Business Administration from Baker University and earned his Master of Science in Instructional Technology from Fort Hays State University. Wilper is currently working on his Doctorate of Business Adminstration from Walden University.
