Child removed from SW Kan. home, 2 arrested for alleged abuse

STEVENS COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating alleged child abuse in Stevens County.

On Monday, police reported officers were dispatched April 17 to a home in the 700 Block of South Harrison Street in Hugoton to check on the welfare of a child, according to a media release.

Officers found a 3-year-old boy with visible signs of abuse. Investigators also learned that on more than one occasion, the child had been left alone at the home for long periods of time.

Investigators removed the child from the home and placed him into     protective custody. Officers arrested 19-year-0ld Chandra Clark of Hugoton on a requested charge of child abuse and aggravated endangering a child. They also arrested 20-year-old Garrette Hinds on a requested charge of aggravated endangering a child. 

The case has been forward to the Stevens County Attorney.
