
Lillian Mae Townsend, 103, of Hutchinson, died January 6, 2024, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. She was born November 30, 1920, in Warrington, MO, to Henry Edward and Ella (Schlechte) Roos.
Lillian graduated from Mason High School in Mason, TX. She then attended nursing school in Fredericksburg, TX. In 1965 she renewed her license at Wichita Public School of Practical Nursing. Lillian worked as an LPN for several hospitals and care homes, even after she officially retired.
Traveling was Lillians favorite thing to do. She traveled around the world with her husband and children with his military service. She continued to travel after his passing. In addition, she enjoyed quilting. Lillian was very active and was constantly visiting family and friends around the country.
On September 1, 1941, she married Arthur V. Townsend in Fredericksburg, TX. They shared over 48 years of marriage, prior to his death on May 14, 1990.
Lillian is survived by: her children, John Townsend of Wichita, Charles Townsend and wife Joann of Wichita, Karen Townsend and husband Jim Shannon of Hutchinson; cousin and travel companion, Joyce Lucas of San Antonio; 10 grandchildren; 12 great- grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by: her husband; parents; children, Scharolette Townsend, Paul Townsend, Janice Glenn; granddaughter, Rebecca Shannon and numerous siblings.
Memorial service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, January 20, 2024, at Woodlawn United Methodist Church, 431 S. Woodlawn Blvd. Derby, KS 67037. Burial will be at a later date.
