Verna May (Stucky) Blaylock was born at home in March 1934 to Herbert J. T. and Edna R. Stucky in McPherson County, Kansas. She graduated from Moundridge High School. Until she graduated from high school, she lived on a farm in a house without electricity or running water.

She married Virgil Stucky in April 1953 at the Eden Mennonite Church, where they were members for many years. They lived for two years in Topeka and the rest of their lives in the Moundridge, Kansas area. They shared life’s blessings and trials for over 48 years on the family farm and in the town of Moundridge in later years. They had two sons. The first son, Steven, passed away in March 1954 on the same day that he was born. Mark was born two years later. Virgil passed away in February 2002.

After helping Virgil on the farm, Verna also worked as a server at several restaurants. She continued to live in Moundridge.

She married Joe Blaylock in September 2010 and became part of his extended family. They attended Moundridge United Methodist Church and had much fun together for a decade. Joe passed away in October 2020.

She liked to volunteer at Angel’s Attic and the Senior Citizens Center as long as her health allowed. She liked socializing with family and friends, listening to music, doing puzzles, reading the Bible and devotionals, and leading exercise classes at the Senior Citizens Center. Her faith was extremely important to her.

Verna passed away on March 14, 2024, two weeks before her 90th birthday. She will be buried in the Eden Mennonite Church cemetery, next to Virgil and where her parents, infant son, and many other relatives are also buried. Funeral services will be at Moundridge United Methodist Church.

Preceding her in death were her first husband, Virgil, second husband, Joe, infant son, Steven, her parents, brothers Leonard and Earl, and sister Edith.

Those left to treasure her memory are her son, Mark (Lisa) Stucky of Portage, Michigan, granddaughter, Anya Stucky of Indianapolis, Indiana, sister Doris (Gary) Stucky and brothers Kenneth and Herb Jr. (Denise) Stucky of Moundridge, and many stepchildren and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, March 19, 2024 at Moundridge United Methodist Church. Burial will take place at the Eden Mennonite Church Cemetery afterward. A visitation in the Pine Village Chapel will be held from 9 to 9:40 a.m. on Tuesday, followed by a visitation at Moundridge United Methodist Church beginning at 10 a.m. before the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Angel’s Attic or Moundridge United Methodist Church in care of Moundridge Funeral Home, PO Box 410, Moundridge, KS 67107.
