Alma Ruth Schmidt 90 died September 24, 2024, at her North Newton residence. She was born March 19, 1934, in Meade, Kansas to Cornelius K. and Mary (Reimer) Isaac. On May 27, 1961, she married Olin W Schmidt at Emmanuel Mennonite Church in Meade, Kansas and he preceded her in death on August 23, 2011.

Alma was a longtime active member of the Grace Hill Mennonite Church in rural Whitewater, Kansas. She was a graduate of the Meade Bible Academy, Tabor College and earned her MA from Emporia State University. She was a retired English professor teaching at Phillipsburg High School, Berean Academy, Tabor College, Butler County and Hesston College.

She Volunteered at Et Cetera Shop the Enlite program at the Newton Public Library and was a member of the Bas Bleu Book Club. Alma also spent many years teaching Sunday school at Grace Hill Mennonite Church.

Alma's greatest joy was her family, and she looked forward to spending time with her children, grandchildren, great granddaughter and many friends.

She is survived by her son Darryl (Stacy) Schmidt; daughter Carmen (Paul) Wade; Brothers Menno, Dwayne, and Ken Isaac; sisters Mary Ann Spira, Betty Friesen, and Joan Becker. Six grandchildren and one great granddaughter also survive her.

Alma is preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother John Isaac and sister Sharon Schell

A memorial service will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 4, 2024, at Grace Hill Mennonite Church with Pastor Weldon Martens presiding. Private family interment will be in the Grace Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday October 3, 2024, at Petersen Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made out to Grace Hill Mennonite Church or Tabor College and left in Care of Petersen Funeral Home.
