SHAWNEE COUNTY —Law enforcement are investigating a Kansas boy on multiple allegations in connection with his participation in a social media trend referred to as "cheesing."
The trend involves individuals recording themselves throwing sliced cheese at another person and posting the footage to social media platforms.
On Wednesday, police reported they arrested a 16-year-old from Topeka on requested charges that include two counts of aggravated assault for an altercation which occurred near the Target parking lot at SW 21st Street Street and SW Wanamaker Road in Topeka.
During the incident, the victim confronted the suspect regarding the cheesing behavior. The suspect then displayed what was believed to be a real firearm and threatened the victim.
The Topeka Police Department reminds the public that social media trends and pranks can quickly escalate into dangerous situations with serious legal consequences.
The boy is being held in the Shawnee County Juvenile Department of Corrections.
