Zita Marie Schmidt, 64, passed away on Wednesday, March 15, 2023 at Pleasant View Home, Inman, KS. She was born December 7, 1958 at McConnell Air Force Base in Wichita, KS, the daughter of Walter Louis Schmidt, Jr. and Roberta Lee (Wood) Schmidt.
Zita attended Nickerson High School and graduated in 1977. She then attended Hutch JUCO and received her Associate’s Degree. Following her graduation, she went to Salina Vo-Tech and studied dental hygiene, and worked as a dental assistant for several years, also doing secretarial work. Zita enjoyed taking day trips with her nieces and nephews, and would frequently visit Fort Larned with her sister to walk around the National Historic Site. She was also a member of St. Teresa’s Catholic Church in Hutchinson.
Zita is preceded by her parents, Walter and Roberta Schmidt; and a brother, Joy G. Butler.
She is survived by her five sisters, Teresa Gardner of Sylvia, Carol (Karl) Ledin of Hutchinson, Diana (Ken Bolin) Schmidt of Nickerson, Donna Green of Inman, and Marcene Butler of Macksville; one brother, Carl (Willa) Schmidt of Macksville; 15 nieces and nephews, 38 great nieces and nephews, 4 great-great nieces and nephews, and numerous cousins.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday, April 5, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. at Memorial Park Cemetery, 5905 W. 4th Ave, Hutchinson, KS. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Reno County Cancer Society, and can be sent in care of Hutchinson Funeral Chapel, 300 E. 30th Ave, Hutchinson, KS 67502.
