Sheriff: Kan. suspects captured after chase, crash of 2 vehicles

JACKSON COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating two suspects after a chase and crash in a reported stolen vehicle.

Just after 3a.m. Monday, a sheriff's deputy attempted to stop a 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander near 134th and U.S. Highway 75 when a pursuit ensued, according to Sheriff Tim Morse.

The driver, later identified as  Nathan Allan Hurteau, 19, of Holton, allegedly attempted to elude the deputy on gravel roads near Mayetta.

The deputy lost sight of the vehicle on 166th and then found the car wrecked between T. and S. Roads.

The driver and a passenger later identified as Emory Michael Murillo, 18, of Holton, fled the crash scene.

They took an additional vehicle, a 2005 Toyota 4Runner from 16436 S. Road, according to Morse.

Just after 5:30a.m., deputies found the Toyota overturned near 142nd and U.S. Highway 75.

With the help of a Kansas Highway Patrol helicopter and PBPN Police, deputies found the suspects on U.S. Highway 75 and 174th Road about 6a.m.

Hurteau is being held on requested charges of interference with law enforcement, driving under the influence, fleeing and eluding law enforcement, theft and possession of stolen property, according to Morse. Michael Murillo is jailed on requested charges of interference with law enforcement, transporting an open container, and minor in possession of alcohol.
