Jan L. Burgett, 94, of McPherson, KS, passed away Wednesday, January 31, 2024 at Riverview Estates, Marquette, Kansas.
Jan was born in Blackwell, Oklahoma on May 23, 1929, the daughter of Jesse Dee and Maybelle (Walker) Lewis.
Jan attended the Cross Roads Country School, in Illinois, Northview Grade School, Liberty Junior High School, and graduated from Hutchinson High School, Hutchinson, Kansas.
She was a lifetime member of First Presbyterian Church in McPherson, Kansas, where she served her church in many capacities through the years.
Through the year Jan was employed as a secretary, bookkeeper and in sales. Jan was a homemaker and worked side by side with her husband Don and their children, at Burgett's Furniture Store.
Jan enjoyed music, needle work, working at the furniture store, cooking and baking and spending time with her friends and family.
Jan Lewis was united in marriage to Donald Lee Burgett, Sr. on July 12, 1947 at Hutchinson. The young couple established their first home together in Hutchinson and moved to McPherson in 1958.
She is survived by daughters, Janice (Don) Levy and Laura Bruce all of McPherson;son Ronald "Ron" Burgett, of Gypsum, Kansas; 7 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.Jan was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald Burgett, Sr., her son, Donald Lee Burgett, Jr.; and a baby brother, Billy Lewis.
Service will be held February 6, 2024 at 10 a.m. at Glidden-Ediger-Wiggins Chapel with Lynn Scott officiating. Burial will be in McPherson Cemetery.
