TOPEKA, Kan. — Winfield Correctional Facility (WCF) resident Michael Lynn Youngblood died Tuesday, March 19, 2024. He collapsed while working with a crew picking up trash along a highway near Wichita. EMS was called to administer life-saving measures. The cause of death is pending the results of an independent autopsy and is currently under investigation.
Per protocol, when a resident dies in the custody of the KDOC, the death is under investigation by the KDOC and the Kansas Bureau of Investigation.
Youngblood, 59, was serving a 56-month sentence of Drug Possession with intent to distribute heroin or methamphetamine in McPherson County, Kansas.
The Winfield Correctional Facility (WCF) has a capacity of 874 minimum-security adult male residents. It is located on the north side of the city of Winfield at the site of the former Winfield State Hospital and Training Center. WCF serves a re-entry function designed to provide a smooth transition from an institutional setting to the community for residents expected to be soon paroled.
