Kan. man found dead after prescribed burn gets out of control

OSAGE COUNTY—Crews working a grass fire that started as prescribed burn in Osage County found the body of a man.

Just before 4:30p.m. Wednesday, the Osage County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting a grass fire out of control in the 3100 block of E K-68 Highway, near Quenemo, Kansas, according Sheriff Chris Wells.

Osage County Fire Districts #7—Quenemo, #3—Melvern, and #5—Lyndon responded. During their efforts to fight the fire, they found the body of a man later identified as 84-year-old Leo O. Williams of Osage City.

Osage County Sheriff’s Deputies, Investigators and Osage County EMS responded to the scene. An investigator from the State Fire Marshal’s Office assisting with the investigation, according to
