HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The City of Hutchinson is inviting its citizens to actively participate in shaping the community's future by serving on various boards and commissions. These advisory bodies assist the city council in making informed decisions across a spectrum of policy areas. The application process is now open, and terms will begin on January 1, 2024.

Inviting citizens to apply, Human Relations Officer Dave Sotelo said, “We believe that every citizen has a unique perspective to offer, and your involvement in any of our boards and commissions can make a real difference. I invite all residents of Hutchinson to explore these opportunities, as your dedication can help shape the policies and decisions that impact our community.”

Hutchinson's boards and commissions offer opportunities for residents to contribute their expertise in various fields. Whether you have an interest in affordable housing, human rights, construction, land revitalization, public arts, or urban forestry, there is a board or commission that aligns with your interests and expertise.

The Boards and Commissions Currently Accepting Applications are:

  1. Housing Commission: Focuses on addressing affordable housing and community development issues.
  2. Human Relations Commission: Promotes diversity, equity, and inclusion to foster a welcoming and fair community for all residents.
  3. Building Trades Board: Oversees and regulates building trades within Hutchinson.
  4. Land Bank: Focuses on revitalizing underutilized or vacant properties for productive use.
  5. Public Arts and Design Council: Advocates for enhancing the city's aesthetics and cultural vitality.
  6. Tree Board: Focuses on preserving and enhancing Hutchinson's urban forest.
