The Wesley is hiring a full-time Certified Medication Aide/Certified Nurse Aide for nights in Hutchinson.

Position: CNA/CMA Schedule: Full-time, nights
Pay range: $16 to $25 per hour

The Certified Medication Aide works under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse and is expected to serve as a role model for CNAs. The position includes providing personal care and service to residents in a way that promotes flexibility, safety and comfort while keeping the resident’s overall well-being as the top priority.

Summary of responsibilities for medication administration

  1. Prepare and administer oral and topical medications as ordered by the physician and directed by the plan of care.
  2. Document medication administration on the Medication Record according to policies and procedures, including outcomes of PRN medications.
  3. Notify licensed nurses of stop orders, stock supply needs, medications needing to be destroyed and medication errors.
  4. Assist licensed nurses with removing discontinued medications from the medication cart.
  5. Count controlled medications with a licensed nurse.

Summary of responsibilities for resident care

  1. Treat all residents with dignity and respect, including those with disruptive behaviors, and ensure resident rights are maintained at all times.
  2. Assist with implementing the resident’s plan of care and help interpret the plan of care to CNAs.
  3. Provide residents with opportunities for independence and choice consistent with their care plan.
  4. Set an example of quality nursing care for CNAs on the team.
  5. Some shift assignments require the CMA to be responsible for passing the majority of medications to assigned residents.
  6. Support and foster good relationships with residents, families and visitors.
  7. Answer call lights promptly.
  8. Complete documentation of tasks performed, including vital signs, meal percentages, weights and other required records according to policy.
  9. Assist residents with transfers, ambulation and exercise, and transport residents as needed using gait belts, proper transfer techniques and lifts according to facility policy.
  10. Make beds and change bedding as needed for resident comfort and hygiene.
  11. Help meet residents’ nutritional needs by assisting with meal setup, helping with eating when needed, and distributing snacks.
  12. Report any behavioral or physical changes in residents’ conditions, as well as problems, concerns or grievances involving residents or families, to the charge nurse or administrative staff.
  13. Provide personal care in private and in a calm, friendly manner.
  14. Check residents routinely to ensure needs are met in a timely manner.
  15. Maintain confidentiality of resident information.
  16. Perform treatments and document them in nurse’s notes, including observations and progress.
  17. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of changes in residents’ plans of care.

Qualifications

  1. Must have current CMA certification in accordance with Kansas law.
  2. Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English.
  3. Must be capable of understanding and following oral and written instructions.
  4. High school diploma or GED is preferred.
  5. Must keep CMA certificate current by completing 10 hours of continuing education every two years.
  6. Previous experience in geriatric care is preferred.
  7. Must be able to communicate effectively with team members and residents.
  8. Must have a positive attitude toward the ill and elderly.
  9. Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress related to the position.

The Wesley is a 50-acre retirement community in northwest Hutchinson that offers independent living, assisted living, memory care, rehabilitation and skilled home care. The organization said it currently has multiple positions available.
