
The Wesley is hiring a full-time Certified Medication Aide/Certified Nurse Aide for nights in Hutchinson.
Position: CNA/CMA
Schedule: Full-time, nights
Pay range: $16 to $25 per hour
The Certified Medication Aide works under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse and is expected to serve as a role model for CNAs. The position includes providing personal care and service to residents in a way that promotes flexibility, safety and comfort while keeping the resident’s overall well-being as the top priority.
Summary of responsibilities for medication administration
- Prepare and administer oral and topical medications as ordered by the physician and directed by the plan of care.
- Document medication administration on the Medication Record according to policies and procedures, including outcomes of PRN medications.
- Notify licensed nurses of stop orders, stock supply needs, medications needing to be destroyed and medication errors.
- Assist licensed nurses with removing discontinued medications from the medication cart.
- Count controlled medications with a licensed nurse.
Summary of responsibilities for resident care
- Treat all residents with dignity and respect, including those with disruptive behaviors, and ensure resident rights are maintained at all times.
- Assist with implementing the resident’s plan of care and help interpret the plan of care to CNAs.
- Provide residents with opportunities for independence and choice consistent with their care plan.
- Set an example of quality nursing care for CNAs on the team.
- Some shift assignments require the CMA to be responsible for passing the majority of medications to assigned residents.
- Support and foster good relationships with residents, families and visitors.
- Answer call lights promptly.
- Complete documentation of tasks performed, including vital signs, meal percentages, weights and other required records according to policy.
- Assist residents with transfers, ambulation and exercise, and transport residents as needed using gait belts, proper transfer techniques and lifts according to facility policy.
- Make beds and change bedding as needed for resident comfort and hygiene.
- Help meet residents’ nutritional needs by assisting with meal setup, helping with eating when needed, and distributing snacks.
- Report any behavioral or physical changes in residents’ conditions, as well as problems, concerns or grievances involving residents or families, to the charge nurse or administrative staff.
- Provide personal care in private and in a calm, friendly manner.
- Check residents routinely to ensure needs are met in a timely manner.
- Maintain confidentiality of resident information.
- Perform treatments and document them in nurse’s notes, including observations and progress.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of changes in residents’ plans of care.
Qualifications
- Must have current CMA certification in accordance with Kansas law.
- Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English.
- Must be capable of understanding and following oral and written instructions.
- High school diploma or GED is preferred.
- Must keep CMA certificate current by completing 10 hours of continuing education every two years.
- Previous experience in geriatric care is preferred.
- Must be able to communicate effectively with team members and residents.
- Must have a positive attitude toward the ill and elderly.
- Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress related to the position.
