CHASE COUNTY —One person died in an accident just after 6 a.m. Friday in Chase County.
The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2014 Chevrolet Sonic driven by Maria Munoz Alonso, 26, Kansas City, Kansas, was westbound on U.S. 50 eight miles east of Strong City.
The car crossed the centerline and struck an eastbound 2023 Kenworth semi driven by Samuel Dean Strubhar, 53, Lyons, on the south shoulder.
Alonso was pronounced dead at the scene and was transported to Frontier Forensics. One juvenile was present in the car; the juvenile record is protected data, according to the KHP. Strubhar was not injured. Alonso was not wearing a seat belt, according to the KHP.
