
HUTCHINSON, Kan.โThe Salhawk boys and girls both won on Senior night by sweeping Newton on Friday night at the Salthawk Activity Center (SAC). The Hutchinson girls won 35-20 while the boys took the boys game 58-39 to finish out the regular season.
GIRLS GAME RECAP
Aliyah Green scored 11 of her game high 15 points in the first half turning a slow start into a 18-6 lead at the half. Lilly Rodriquez and Grace Posch filled in at point guard for the injured Josie McLean who suffered a season ending knee injury against Derby on Tuesday. McLean started what would become her last senior season basketball game and received a standing ovation from the Hutchinson home crowd as she was replaced in the line up by Aliyah Green.
The Salthawk girls (15-5) where led in scoring by Aliyah Green with 15 points, followed by Grace Posch and Libby Jackson who both had five points. Lilly Rodriquez added four points as Mya Thompson, Kaia Smith and Aiyanna Green scored two points each to round out the Salthawk scoring.
Newton (7-13) was led in scoring by Olivia Antonowich with 10 points, Stephanie Nelson six points, Piper Seidl and Tyrianna Bridges scored two points apiece in the loss.
Both teams await their sub-state seedings that come out on Saturday morning from the KSHSAA office.
BOYS GAME RECAP
The Salthawk boys and Newton went back and forth in the early minutes before Hutchinson went on a eight to two run to close out the first quarter leading 16-10. The Salthawks pushed the lead to 32-18 at the half.
Nic Lange led the Salthawks in scoring with 14 points followed by his senior teammate Garrett Robinson's 11 points. Wade Meyer added eight points, Dauntay King and Terrell King scored seven points apiece. Bradyn Rodriquez added five points, Julian Smith and Jay Lewis closed out the Salthawk scoring with three points each.
Newton was led in scoring by Camden Carr with 15 points, Cole Dillon added seven points, Justin Zerger six points, Jose Vasquez chipped in five, Ashton Castro four and Ezra Entz scored two.
Hutchinson (19-1) will be the second seed in class 5A West and will host a sub-state. The seedings will come out from the KSHSAA office Saturday morning. Newton (2-18) finishes their season.
