LB7 celebration is Wednesday at the Cosmosphere

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Wednesday is the 60th anniversary of the Liberty Bell 7 space flight that took astronaut Gus Grissom into space. The Cosmosphere will hold several activities and presentations to celebrate the historic flight of Grissom. 

On Wednesday, visitors can view the spacecraft and take advantage of special discounts in the Cosmosphere Café and Cosmosphere Gift Store. Limited-edition Liberty Bell 7 patches and t-shirts will be available for purchase, and a free artifact scavenger hunt can be picked up at the Box Office. 

Also Wednesday will be the presentation of Mercury to Artemis: Celebrating the Past and Future of Space Travel. The  free, in-person event will take place from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. with a presentation on Liberty Bell 7 by Cosmosphere President and CEO, Jim Remar, followed by a virtual presentation from a NASA representative on the future of space travel and the Artemis mission. 

July also marks the 55th anniversary of the Gemini 10 mission which happened July 18 and the Apollo 11 moon landing 52 years ago which happened July 20.
