Cosmosphere to host astronaut Dr. Janet Kavandi and Sen. Jerry Moran Thursday

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Cosmosphere announced Tuesday that astronaut Dr. Janet Kavandi  and U.S. Sen. Jerry Moran will visit the Cosmosphere on Thursday for a STEM engagement event titled, “Dreams Worth Chasing.” The event takes place at 8:30 a.m. in the Cosmosphere lobby.

More than 80 students from Hutchinson STEM Magnet School at Allen and McCandless Elementary are expected to attend.

Sen. Moran and Dr. Kavandi will discuss the importance of STEM education and her experiences as a NASA astronaut.

Dr. Kavandi grew up in Carthage, Missouri, and was selected as a NASA astronaut in 1994. As a mission specialist, she completed three Space Shuttle missions. Dr. Kavandi currently serves as President of the Sierra Space Corporation.

Sen. Moran is the Ranking Member of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee that provides resources to NASA.
