Board of Zoning Appeals to consider variance request

Posted Apr 12, 2021 3:08 PM

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson Board of Zoning Appeals will go over a request for a variance on a parcel of land located along E Sherman and Superior during Tuesday’s meeting.

Applicant Gary Graber is proposing a salvage yard at that location. City code requires a 300 foot variance from such businesses to any residential areas. The current variance is less than that.

Some residents have responded to the city citing the extra noise and the hit property values could take if the salvage yard is opened. The area already has numerous semis and railroad activity from nearby grain elevators.

The request is the only action item on the agenda for Tuesday’s meeting which begins at 5:30 p.m. and will be offered via Zoom.
