HUTCHINSON, Kan. — While the County Commission has eliminated the states mask mandate at the local level, those who use RCat bus service will still have to wear masks.
“We are required by federal law to continue to require masks for our riders, our drivers, all of our staff,” Lilyhorn said. “And we will be under that mandate until they lift it.”
RCat was shut down at times due to pandemic but Lilyhorn says that they are seeing a slight uptick in ridership now that the pandemic appears to be easing.
“Ridership has been...remarkably steady,” Lilyhorn said. “Our regular riders who rely on us for transportation have continued to use us throughout.”
Just in case there is some confusion over the mask order, Lilyhorn says they do have masks available for any rider who doesn’t have one:
“We have one for them if they don’t have one when they get on the bus,” Lilyhorn said. “That’s a practice we have had ever since masks became available to people, so that really hasn’t changed.”.
Lilyhorn says they continue to practice social distancing on the buses and will continue to operate under the federal CDC standards.
