With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, and Papa, Peter Dale Flemming, 75, of McPherson, KS on September 5th, 2024. He was surrounded by his loving family at the time, and he will be deeply missed.
Pete was born the oldest of four children to Vernon (Pete) and Barbara Flemming on August 22, 1949 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The family relocated to McPherson, where Pete graduated from McPherson High School in 1967. He met his wife, Peggy (Stegeman) in 1968, and they married November 1, 1969. After attending college at Emporia State University, the couple moved back to McPherson where Pete pursued his engineering degree while working full-time to support his young family. Through the years, Pete worked for Femco, CertainTeed Machinery and was an integral part of the startup and continued success of Plastics Extrusion Machinery (PEM). He retired in 2018.
Through the years, Pete enjoyed golfing, traveling, restoring his ‘75 Corvette and spending time with his family. He was a lifelong Raiders and Kansas City Royals fan. He always rooted for KSU football and begrudgingly cheered for OU and Texas when the situation dictated. He loved rock-and-roll music, Mexican food and Clint Eastwood movies.
Pete was known to be a devoted husband, steadfast father, supportive father-in-law, good humored uncle, enthusiastic golfing partner, and much much more. But the role he cherished the most was Papa to his grandchildren. Papa was always ready for a game of Marco Polo in the pool, watch another movie, play FaceTime coffee shop, cheer for various school events and anything else his grandchildren requested. Pete’s love for his grandkids was infinite. He could not be a prouder Papa.
Pete is survived by his loving wife of nearly 55 years, Peggy Flemming; children, P. Scott (Jennifer) Flemming of Wichita, KS, Wade (Kelly) Flemming of Haysville, KS, and Emily (Joshua) Fisher of La Mesa, CA; grandchildren, P. Campbell Flemming, Laura Flemming and Dashiell Fisher; sisters, Sibley (Brian) Pauling and Virginia (Denny) Strickland, both of Tulsa, OK and brother, James Flemming of Springfield, MO; and many extended family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Pete will be loved and remembered always.
A graveside service will be held at McPherson Cemetery on Saturday, September 14th at 10:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Youth Programs at Turkey Creek Golf Course or to The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in care of Stockham Family Funeral Home, 205 North Chestnut, McPherson, KS 67460.
