MCPHERSON, Kan. — A significant agricultural background has led to a new agriculture loan officer position at Home State Bank in McPherson for one Inman man.
Brandon O’Neill grew up on a family ranch in Alta Vista, where he became involved in raising and selling registered Herefords. While in 4-H, O’Neill raised registered Duroc pigs for show and market, and he produced numerous grand champions across the state.
“I graduated at Kansas State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in geography with emphasis on geographic information systems,” O’Neill said. “For the precision ag farmers, I assisted in data accumulation to make prescription maps.”
Most recently he worked at KanEquip following careers in farming operations in southwest Kansas where his focus was primarily wheat, milo, and hay. Later he was head of confinement health at Lynch Feedlot in Dodge City.
“I learned about the bank opportunity while prospecting customers,” he said. “A family that I was working with passed my information to their son-in-law and he notified me of the position. I have always had an interest in finance and ag economics.”
O’Neill said he his background will help him as he understands the frustrations that come with beef and crop production.
“The challenges of breaking even, margin of profitability, breakdown, weather and overall rising cost of agriculture production are critical to addressing farm needs,” he said.
Home State Bank Market President Georgia Ballard looks forward to O’Neill being on the lending team, based at their main office at 223 N. Main.
“With his background in the inner workings of agriculture business, Brandon brings a tremendous knowledge to our bank,” Ballard said. “We are excited for him to be part of our bank team.”
With his wife Alissa, O’Neill lives in Inman with a son and daughter.
