
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has withdrawn a proposed rule that would have reduced the discharge of pollutants from meat packing plants and slaughterhouses.
The EPA said it was because of the importance of the nation’s food supply and to help keep food prices down.

Compliance with regulations get passed on to the consumer, and this decision helps lighten the burden.
The proposed rule would have cost the industry millions of dollars to comply and would have been reflected in meat prices.
