NEWTON, Kan. — Assistant Water/Wastewater Superintendent Nathan Phillips received the Special Recognition Award at the 2024 Kansas Rural Water Association Conference in Wichita this week. The award recognizes someone who has demonstrated commendable service to their community.

Nathan began his career with the City of Newton as an entry-level maintenance worker in 2013. He worked his way through the ranks and was promoted to Assistant Superintendent in 2023. Over the years, Nathan has earned numerous water and wastewater certifications, and he most recently completed the Certified Public Manager program through the KU Public Management Center.

Nathan exhibits his commitment to the organization through a servant leadership attitude. He helps with after-hours calls, researches equipment purchases, goes the extra mile to train newer staff, organizes daily tasks of the division, and leads by example in all he does.
