HFD hosts annual awards banquet

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson Fire Department held its 14th Annual Awards Banquet on Saturday.

This is an opportunity to recognize the firefighters in Hutchinson for their service. The awards were given out for the past two years after last year's event was canceled.

Capt. Aaron Walton was awarded Officer of the Year.

The Rookies of the Year awards went to Kenzie Stroh-Wolf and Cole Inghram. EMT of the Year awards went to Calen Dunn and Michael Sooter.

Also handed out was the Firefighter of the Year, which was presented to Jake Gehring and Martin Swiggart. The Officer of the Year went to Capt. Chad Allen and Capt. Aaron Walton.

The Fire Chiefs Awards went to Battalion Chief Rex Albright, Capt. Ryan Winters and Capt. Justin Williams.

In addition, members were recognized for being members of specialty teams that included technical rescue, hazardous materials, tactical emergency medical services and fire investigators. Numerous company citations and awards were handed out for those efforts.

Also Saturday night, Hutchinson Human Resources Director Tom Sanders, Finance Director Angela Richard and Joseph Griffin from the IT Department were recognized for their efforts in helping the department with its accreditation process.
