Waverly H. “Blackie” Johns, 89, of Hutchinson, died April 30, 2024, at his residence. He was born December 16, 1934, to Ray Johns and Virginia (Vansickle) Johns.

Waverly started high school then enlisted with the United States Army Reserves where he spent eight years. He worked as a carpet layer for 30 years then transitioned to working at Panhandle Eastern Pipeline for 10 years. Waverly was an avid fisher, hunter, and gardener. He also enjoyed dancing and playing pool at the Silver Dollar in Hutchinson. In 1962, he married Dorothy Keffer and they shared 62 wonderful years together.

Waverly is survived by: wife, Dorothy Johns, Hutchinson; son, Brent (Finita) Johns, Wichita; daughters, Susan (Gary) Magby, Hutchinson and Julie (James) Adamek, Jacksonville, Florida; 15 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; son, Marvin Johns; and two brothers.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
