SEDGWICK COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities are investigating a burglary and shooting at a Kansas home.

Just before 4:00 a.m. on Friday, Wichita Police Department (WPD) officers were dispatched to a shots fired call in the 8200 block of E 33rd Court South in Wichita, according to Police Captain Jason Stevens.

Officers arrived and contacted a 31-year-old man and 29-year-old woman who advised they were home when they received an alert on their phone from a Ring doorbell camera that indicated motion at their front door.

Upon further investigation, the man realized someone was attempting to access their garage.

The man retrieved a firearm and confronted the suspect, who was walking away toward a silver/grey-colored van. After resident yelled at the suspect to stop, the suspect turned and fired a single shot – missing the resident but striking his home. The suspect then fled the area.

Investigators learned that the garage was accessed via a remote garage door opener taken from the resident's unlocked car. Additionally, police found evidence of another vehicle burglary was located in the neighborhood.

The suspect was described as an unknown race male in his 20's or 30's, wearing all black clothing with a hood up. The vehicle was described as a light gray Dodge Caravan.
