HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A spokesperson for Siemens Gamesa says it will be at least a few weeks before the company can disclose more information on two potential wind turbine contracts that came to light just as the company is preparing to shut down plants in Hutchinson and Fort Madison, Iowa.
On July 7th, the company made a short statement that a letter of intent has been reached with a non-disclosed customer for two U.S. projects that will have a positive impact on the hibernation schedule of the Hutchinson and Fort Madison facilities.
Siemens Gamesa says that if the contracts are finalized they will make sure they have the workforce and resources in place to deliver on those contractual obligations.
Siemens Gamesa announced that they would be putting both facilities into hibernation due to continued logistical issues and a soft onshore wind turbine market. The closing will affect 92 workers.
