⚾ Wichita Wind Surge road win streak snapped

SPRINGFIELD, MO- Jake Rucker had three hits and Alex Isola added two more but, the Springfield Cardinals hammered three home runs to defeat the Wind Surge 8-3 in the series opener. The Wind Surge five game road streak ended with the loss.

Chandler Redmond leads the Texas League with 14 home runs and on Tuesday added two more to add to his league leading total. He opened the second inning with a solo homer to give the Cards the early lead. Springfield tacked on three more runs in the third with a Nick Dunn home run.

The majority of the game was kept close by the Surge. Wichita’s offense showed some life in the fourth inning getting three runs on five hits. They responded to Springfield taking an early lead with a big fourth inning. Anthony Prato brought in two runs on a single to center field. Alerick Soularie then sent a sacrifice fly out to center-right field allowing Alex Isola to score easily from third.

The Cardinals added a run in the sixth inning and put the game away in the seventh with Redmond’s second home run. The Cardinals starter Kenny Hernandez earned the win. In his seventh Wind Surge start Carlos Luna pitched four complete innings gave up six hits and four runs. He earned the loss for the game as well bringing his record to (0-4).

NOTES – The Surge drop to 1-5 when facing a left-handed starting pitcher. Alerick Soularie ended his eight game hit streak on Tuesday, going zero for two with an RBI. The Wind Surge activated first basemen Aaron Sabato from injured list and placed Armani Smith on development roster. The Surge activated Soularie from temporary inactive list.

UPCOMING – The Wichita Wind Surge continue the road trip in Springfield on Wednesday night at 6:35. Surge will start RH Blayne Enlow against Cardinals RH Logan Gragg.
