HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Reno County families that include a son or daughter with an IEP or those families whose children may be in need of additional support services through school have a special workshop day on Saturday, October 14 at the MidTown Center from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Sponsored by Families Together, Inc., Reno County Special Education Cooperative and Hutchinson Public Schools, there will be two workshops.
Strategies for Preventing and De-Escalating Challenging Behaviors will include the seven phases of escalation and how to respond during each phase. Interventions that schools can use for children demonstrating challenging behaviors and some simple tips for home will be included.
Working for Change: The Power of a Personal Story will guide parents to become systems change agents by using their personal stories. Improving access to services and supports for individuals with disabilties is the goal.
All materials and lunch will be provided at no cost to families. A child care voucher will be available to families who attend the entire event.
