Grant A. Young, 60, passed away on Tuesday, February 14, 2023, at Hospice House, Hutchinson, KS.   He was born January 20, 1963 in Hutchinson, KS, to Ellis G. and Kathryn A. (Laskowski) Young.

Grant became one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and was baptized at the age of 25. Grant graduated from Buhler High School in 1981 and graduated from Wichita State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education.  He taught privately for more than 30 years.  He was the leader and lead trumpeter of the Air Capital Big Band which was featured at the River Festival and the Sedgwick County Zoo summer series of concerts.  He also worked several years as a jazz adjudicator and clinician at the Wichita Jazz Festival. Grant played with several well-known music personalities such as Ray Charles, Patti Page and The Temptations.  In Grant’s spare time, he enjoyed gardening, landscaping and helping others. 

Grant is survived by his mother, Kathryn Young, a sister, Becky Young; and many uncles, aunts and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ellis Young.
