Pets die in morning fire in Hutchinson

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Hutchinson firefighters battled a blaze in the southeast part of the city on Monday morning.

According to a release, the Hutchinson Fire Department responded to 201 North Waldron at 8:57 a.m. Monday for a residential structure fire. Heavy smoke and fire was showing out of the rear of a single-story home.

Crews made an interior attack finding high heat and zero visibility, while locating the fire in the kitchen area. Crews searched the home and found several pets, unfortunately only 2 survived.

Severe damage was sustained to the back of the home with smoke damage throughout. Fire investigators are currently working to determine a cause.

Hutchinson Fire Department was assisted by Reno County EMS, Hutchinson Police Department, Hutchinson Public Works, Hutchinson-Reno-County Emergency Communication, Evergy, and Kansas Gas Service.
