๐Ÿ€ Salthawks win two over Campus; Boys clinch AVCTL title

HAYSVILLE, Kan.โ€”The Hutch High basketball teams wrapped up their final regular season road trip in fitting fashion on Friday night with a sweep of Haysville-Campus. The Salthawk Girls won 46-17 while the Hutch Boys let a run away game get interesting late in the fourth quarter before closing it out to remain undefeated with a 79-67 win over the Colts.

GIRLS RECAP

The Salthawk girls dominated Campus in about every phase of the game Friday night by establishing a big lead early in the first quarter 20 to 3. Then extended their lead at the half to lead 33 to 7.  The Salthawks finished the game with a running clock to win their 14th game of the season 46 to 17.

Hutchinson had a balanced scoring attack, led by Josie McLean's 10 points. Super Sophomore Aliyah Green scored 9 followed by Grace Posch's 8 points including 2 treys in the game. Ayanna Green added 4 points with Kaia Smith, Libby Jackson and Mya Thompson adding 3 apiece.  Hannah Ames, Kyndra Gaines and Azariah Dawes scored 2 each for the Salthawk girls in the win.

Campus was led by in scoring by Mya Free and Brylie Laake with 4 points each.

Hutchinson will host Derby next Tuesday at the SAC in Hutchinson.

BOYS RECAP

The undefeated Salthawk Boys again jumped out to a huge lead in the first half vs Campus to lead at halftime, 51 to 26. However, Hutchinson allowed Campus to chip away at the big lead ending the third quarter leading 67 to 47.  Campus got hot in the final quarter and managed to hold Hutch to only free throws and Nic Lange's two field goals to cut the lead to 9 on a late possession before Hutchinson closed it out to win by a 79-67 final score.

Hutchinson's Wade Meyer scored 19 of his 22 points in the first half with three triples to lead Hutch in scoring. Garrett Robertson had a solid night with 18. Sophomore Terrell King and Senior Nic Lange both had 12. Dauntay King had 7 points all in the second half. Julian Smith came off the bench to score 4. Bradyn Rodriquez added 2 along with Devon Spiller with 2 points to round out the scoring.

Hutchinson (18-0) clinched the AVCTL Div. 1 Championship and returns home to close out the season on Tuesday against Derby and Newton on Friday. 

Tuesday is Pack the SAC night with the public being asked to bring a non-perishable item to donate to the Reno County Food Bank. Hutch Elementary students will receive a free Salthawk Basketball T-Shirt upon admission.
