
COLBY, Kan. — The Hutchinson Community College women's basketball team got back on track by thumping Colby 80-41 on Tuesday evening inside the Colby Events Center.
Hutchinson (20-7, 14-7 KJCCC) led 37-22 at halftime before outscoring the Trojans 43-19 in the second half to cruise to the road victory.
The Blue Dragons really put the game out of reach in the third quarter when they outscored Colby (1-24, 0-20) 24-4 in the period. Hutchinson head coach John Ontjes was able to use his bench for several minutes in the second half, playing 12 girls in total, 10 of which scored in the win.
Monae Duffy finished with a double-double, going for 19 points and 14 rebounds, while Kali Howard added 15 points. Mya Williams had 12. Hutchinson shot 41 percent from the floor in the win, going 33-of-81. The Blue Dragon defense held Colby to just 31 percent on 14-of-44. The Trojans were led by Aaliyah Chambers' 20 points.
Hutchinson took care of the basketball, only committing 11 turnovers, while forcing 29 Colby miscues. The Blue Dragons capitalized with 27 points off those turnovers. Hutchinson also dominated in the paint, outscoring Colby 48-18 inside the lane, while the Blue Dragon bench outscored Colby 37-2.
The Blue Dragons are back at the Sports Arena on Saturday afternoon when they play host to the Northwest Tech Mavericks. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
