Mary Ethel Sommerfeld, 84, of Olathe, KS, passed away on June 6, 2024.
She was born November 1, 1939, in Mansfield, MO, the youngest child of F.N. (Bud) and Olive Alwilda (Millikin) Blake. The family made their home in Smolan, KS. She graduated from Lindsborg Rural High School in May 1957. In August 1957, Mary wed Norman Willoughby. They had three children: Darrel, Penny, and Maryann. They divorced in 1971. In April 1975, Mary wed Ernest Sommerfeld. They had two children: John and Katrina. The Sommerfelds made their home in Marquette, KS.
Mary was a devoted wife and loving mama to her kids and all their friends. Over the years, she held various jobs outside the home. She retired from Farmers Alliance, McPherson, in 2005.
She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Earl Blake; sister, Nancylee Blake; and daughter Maryann Willoughby.
She is survived by her husband, Ernie (Olathe); brother, Everett Blake (Hutchinson, KS); sons, Darrel Willoughby and John Sommerfeld (Biloxi, MS); daughters, Penny Willoughby (Seattle, WA); and Kat Jameson (Independence, MO). She was blessed with nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be 1:00 p.m. June 21st at Hutchinson Funeral Chapel, 300 E. 30th Ave, Hutchinson, KS. Visitation will start at 10:00 a.m. until service time and will continue after the service until 3 p.m. at the funeral chapel.
