Preliminary hearing set in murder case

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A preliminary hearing is set for Thursday morning in Reno County District Court for a Hutchinson man facing two counts of first-degree murder.

Kyle Hardwick is accused in the deaths of 58-year-old Philip Anstine and 56-year-old Marion Bates in August of 2021.

Hardwick was arrested in Maize Sept. 1 after being listed as a person of interest when Bates and Anstine’s bodies were discovered on a property in eastern Reno County.

Thursday’s hearing begins at 9:30 a.m. in front of Judge Joe McCarville.
