SEDGWICK COUNTY, Kan. — The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after Sedgwick County Fire District 1 firefighters recovered a body from Lake Afton on Saturday afternoon.
Just after 2 p.m., a deputy patrolling Lake Afton Park was contacted by an individual who reported an unidentified object floating in the water near the dam on the south side of the lake, according to Sheriff's Deparatment spokesman Branden Stitt. Deputies were unable to identify the object.
Because of the ongoing missing person investigation involving Ian Shelton and Lake Afton, additional resources were requested.
Fire District 1 deployed a boat, and firefighters recovered a body from the water. The remains were identified as those of an adult male.
Because of the condition of the body, investigators have not been able to make a positive identification. The remains were taken to the Sedgwick County Regional Forensic Science Center, where an autopsy will be performed and the remains will be identified.
