HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive with the Post Office is back this Saturday, May 13. You'll see bags in your box this week.

Our union purchased 25,000 sacks," said Josh Estrella with the Postal Workers. "We're going to deliver those with the cards. We'll finish them up on Wednesday. I know the food bank likes canned fruits, vegetables, tuna, macaroni and cheese, hamburger helper, any non-perishable food item."

Even though the official date is Saturday, once you have the bags, you can fill them.

"We'll gladly pick up food," Estrella said. "If they are not home this weekend and they forget about it, they get home and think, oh man, I forgot to put out the food, we'll pick that up on Monday or even next week."

Everyone pitches in to get the food to the food bank. In a typical year, they receive over 20,000 pounds of food.

"The Reno County Food Bank will bring their crew," Estrella said. "Letter carriers will stay after work and help process the food and get it over to the food bank. Our union buys pizza and refreshments for all the workers and we just kind of make it a good time to celebrate the day of giving back to the community."

They can also take monetary donations either cash in an envelope or a check as long as its clearly marked for the Reno County Food Bank.
