Claudia Faye Hawthorne, 79, passed away May 4, 2023 at her home in South Hutchinson, KS. She was born September 17, 1943 in Newton, KS, the daughter George Payne and Lou Brown.
Claudia owned her own custodial business in Hutchinson and worked for Republic Group where she retired after more than 25 years. She enjoyed playing the piano and was a song writer. She was a member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church where she played the piano for 12 years. Claudia also attended and was a member of McGee Chapel Church of God in Christ in Hutchinson.
Claudia was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Theoplis Johnson Jr. and a brother, Cedrick Jackson.
She is survived by her three granddaughters, Tameila Johnson, Giselle Johnson and Karlee Caudil; one grandson, Theoplis Johnson III; two great grandchildren, Yasmene Carter and London Vassell; one sister, Shirley Owens; one brother, Donald Jackson and two god sons, Charles “7” Crumble and Chad E. Mayberry.
Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, 1015 E. 7th, Hutchinson, with the Reverend William Green Sr. officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 16, 2023, at Hutchinson Funeral Chapel, 300 E. 30th Ave, Hutchinson. Burial will follow in Eastside Cemetery, Hutchinson. Memorial contributions are suggested to Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church and can be sent in care of the funeral chapel. Service will be lived streamed on Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church’s Facebook page.
